Description
Liothyronine sodium (T3) imitates a hormone from the thyroid called triiodothyronine. Doctors prescribe it often for people with hypothyroidism. Their thyroid gland doesn’t create enough thyroid hormone. Thyroid hormones like T3 hold a key role in controlling metabolism. They raise the basal metabolic rate (BMR). This helps the body use energy better. Consequently, T3 influences several cell activities, such as
1. Protein breakdown: T3 encourages the building of protein but at high concentrations, it can cause protein to break down (catabolism).
2. Fat changes: It increases the breakdown of fat, which might reduce body fat.
3. Carbohydrate balance: T3 raises glucose creation and betters the response of cells to insulin.
